I have to say — I wasn’t that upset when I first heard the news, but as I saw that last series of posts, I got a little verklempt. Not sad, per se. Gawker isn’t “real life” enough for me to be truly sad. But I will miss it, and I will miss the people who wrote on and for it.

Its a bit like leaving the neighborhood you’ve lived in for awhile. You’ll find a new coffeeshop, pizza place and preferred Chinese take out near your new digs, but they won’t be the same as the ones you’re leaving behind. There’s comfort in the familiar, aside from pure nostalgia.

I had a lot of problems with how Gawker was run. I got a lot of enjoyment from the things Gawker created. I’ll find new reading/writing outlets I’m sure. But they won’t be quite like Gawker and that’s a little sad.
