I fell down a Wikipedia hole earlier today and emerged wanting to read some of the better works of historical fiction dealing with the King Arthur legend. First and foremost recommended was T.H White's seminal The Once and Future King, and also Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon for the Morgan le Fay perspective.
Any other recommendations? I remember my mother reading the Mary Stewart Merlin trilogy in the 1970s, but like Bradley, Stewart is said to veer from the core mythos. I'm looking to stay true to the legend and not veer off into social agendas or Atlantis or any other such diversions.
