Last night I was picking my daughter up from a party. It was after midnight and she was hungry, so we stopped by Subway (open 24 hours) to grab a sandwich. There was a woman and her two children there, maybe a two year old girl in a stroller and probably a 9 or 10 year old boy trying, with evident discomfort and restlessness, to sleep in one of those hard plastic seats while slumped over on the table. My heart was just breaking for them. I wanted to do something but I wasn't sure what. Partly because I was afraid if I bought them some food it would disturb the kid who was trying to sleep. And I wasn't even sure if food was what they needed. I'm thinking of heading back there tonight to see if they're still there. Would you approach them? And how, short of gathering them up and taking them home to sleep on your couch?

Also I had to give props to the Subway staff who seemed pretty chill and tolerant about the whole thing.
