Congressman Lamar Smith (R-Tx), chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, drafted a bill that would allow creationist lawmakers to meddle in National Science Foundation’s peer review process.

Smith, a global warming skeptic, has a deep passion for science. He won the Bausch & Lomb Science Award in high school, and took physics and astronomy undergrad classes. It was at Yale where he had his eureka moment: "Looking to either side of me, I soon realized that I was sitting next to the future Einsteins of the world, and I wasn't one of them."

As a Christian Scientist who believes in faith healing, he'll probably push National Institutes of Health to study mental miasma, the long neglected, invisible disease-causing agent.
