I’m planning to run for City Council 2020. My area (East Greensboro, NC) has been an afterthought for too long. A grocery co-op opened two years ago to serve a community that is one of the worst food deserts in the state. After two years, it’s closing due to lack of outside support. White people in Greensboro will drive 30 min to Whole Foods. The Renaissance Co-op, which was closer, shared a parking lot with a public library. But it was still ‘over there’, so basically on the moon.

East Greensboro has seen no assistance or reinvestment after an April tornado destroyed 3 schools and at least 80 houses. A $50K grant was awarded to a downtown park; the destroyed schools aren’t fixed. Public transportation is a joke, especially in that neighborhood.

Has anyone run for local office?
